Common Synthetic Turf
Mistakes to Avoid

Synthetic-Turf-Installer.com Tip

Avoid these common mistakes when instlling your turf. Your new synthetic lawn may even fool your neighbors into thinking it’s real grass.

Any professional synthetic turf installer worth his or her salt will know to avoid these 'rookie' mistakes. Click Here - for help in Choosing a Professional Turf Installer.

Do Not Roto-Till Your Yard
Applying a roto-tiller to your yard disturbs the soil at a depth much greater than where you need to go. And by disturbing this soil, you effectively 'destabilize' it, which will destabilize your gravel base.

Use a sod cutter instead. This will allow you to smoothly cut out your existing grass without disturbing the soil beneath.

Never Use Pea Gravel as Your Base Material
Probably the #1 most common mistake, using pea gravel as a base material. Pea gravel stones have a smooth, round surface, which make them 'slip and slide' when compacted.

Use crushed limestone instead. Crushed limestones 'interlock' with one another when compacted. See the Installation Guide for why crushed limestone can give you a stable base for years.

Don't Measure Short
Seems obvious right? Well, it's amazing how easy it is to 'measure short' when trying to minimize spare turf. The best way to not measure short is to measure more than once and in multiple directions while conducting your site assessment. See the Installation Guide to learn more.

Do Not Make Multiple Turf Orders for the Same Area
If you ordered turf yesterday and again place another turf order today for the same product, you'll likely get different color turfs.

That's because turf color often varies from one production 'batch' to another. That's why you want to avoid the pitfall of ordering turf multiple times for the same lawn area.

Measure your entire turf area, and order enough turf to cover the entire area. Do this even if you only do a partial installation today. When you decide to do the rest of the installation at a later date, you'll have exactly the same turf!

Don't Run Turf in Different Directions
Running turf in more than one direction results in a 'disjointed' lawn look. Learn how to avoid this common mistake when conducting your site assessment. See the Installation Guide to learn more.
