Custom Cutting and Defibrillating Your Artificial Grass
Synthetic-Turf-Installer.com Tip
If you are installing turf yourself, renting a machine sweeper or mechanical brush will give you the best finished look. If you hire a professional synthetic turf installer you should always expect your installer to mechanically defibrillate your turf.
Custom Cut Turf
Getting your synthetic turf custom cut can save you money.
Say you need synthetic turf that measures 10' x 10'. Your synthetic turf costs you $2.50/sf. You order a 'custom cut' piece of synthetic turf that measures exactly 10' x 10'. Then, your total cost for turf material is 10x10x$2.50 = $250.
Alternatively, you order from a source that only supplies rolls of turf that are 15-feet wide. Then, you would need to order a 15' x 10' roll of turf. Suddenly, your cost for turf material is 15x10x$2.50 = $375.
Of course, the cost difference is more dramatic the more expensive your synthetic turf is.
Caveat
You're not always going to find a local turf dealer who will custom cut your turf for you. That's because your local turf representative may be solely an installer. Installers usually aren't set up to sell turf like a retail store would.
Turf Defibrillation
Save time and work and get better results with turf defibrillation.
When you order synthetic turf from the manufacture, the lawn piles will sometimes arrive intertwined (Imagine braided hair.), sometimes conjoined (Imagine conjoined twins.), and always pressed flat because turf is produced in 'carpet-like' rolls. You can see some or all of these qualities when you order turf samples.
The best way to 'undo' these characteristics of synthetic turf that's 'hot off the presses' is to apply a mechanical sweeper or a mechanical brush to 'defibrillate' it or -- to 'fluff' it up!
Mechanical Defibrillation
Mechanical defibrillation will save you work and time. Also, mechanical defibrillation always gives better results than turf defibrillation that's done by hand.
Also, for infill turf, a mechanical sweeper will help you distribute and 'work in' your infill material into your turf.
Typically, manual defibrillations are done with a rake and/or push broom. For some no-infill turfs, a manual defibrillation will do the job. For more on turf defibrillation see the Installaion Guide.
